Knot Tying 201
October 18, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$20
In our Knot Tying 201 Workshop, you will learn how to build and tie your own leaders. Hand tied leaders will outlast any factory leader and are smoother to cast. You will leave this workshop with Michael Lohman’s favorite leader formula and you will build one or more leaders the you can immediately fish.
If you’ve never used a hand-tied leader, you are in for a treat. Many people like to use “store-bought” leaders with a smooth continuous taper which is fine unless you want to take your fly fishing to the next level. Manufactured leaders aren’t as effective at transmitting the energy from the fly line to the fly and the result is often casts that don’t turn over the fly very well.
A properly constructed leader can be matched to the weight of your fly rod and will help turn over big flies such as grasshoppers as well as little tiny flies. Hand tied leaders are also easier to repair and add new tippet.
Your instructor will tell you that he often uses same leader all year with a few repairs during the season. Rigging nymphs is also easier with a hand-tied leader. Michael will show you why.
Please note the new date and time. This workshop is great for the archery hunters who want to be in trees on Saturday morning.
Cost for the workshop is $20. All materials are provided and you will take your new hand-tied leaders home with you. Please register and pay online
IMPORTANT – You must have attended the Knot Tying 101 workshop on Oct 6th or have a mastery of how to tie the knots taught in that workshop. This class will not cover how to tie those knots as we don’t have time. This class is all about building your own leaders.
